Of course I'd love to hear more about Courage of Ages! How do the Links meet? Which Links meet and what're they like in your story?

Aaah yes of course!! I’ll start with the how they all get stuck together:

This was all thought up before totk was anything more than singular teaser trailer so it likely doesn’t fit in with all of that, but it all starts with the Yiga. After the events of botw they’re believed to be mostly just a group of stragglers, and not much of a threat in anyone’s eyes. But they’re actually just underground, united by a new leader who wants revenge.

Link killed both their old leader and the calamity, and the Yiga want to take him out more than anything. But this new leader is smarter than Master Kohga was, and even more ambitious, and after finding some old records, has the brilliant idea that instead of taking out just this Link, they’ll take out every Link all across history.

It’ll be revenge for the countless times the hero defeated the one they worship and serve, his continued defense of the princess and protection of the land. All the Yiga need is a way to do this, and after a long and extensive search, the clan finally locates the Harp of Ages.

Which, combined with the spell they use to track Link, are going to use to forcibly bring all the heroes of courage throughout history to their time, then wipe them out all in one blow in honor and revenge for their old master and the Calamity. (Maybe even a sacrifice of that magnitude could bring him back!!)

...Problem is, the yiga kinda suck at figuring out how the harp works, and making it and their spell work together.

So instead of just bringing in all the Links in one go, the heroes are being yanked around to different times, pulled to each other like magnets, trying to figure out what’s going on and also Not Die. There are a few smaller Link groups that get formed before they all wind up together (...and then get snapped apart again), and those are the main dynamics that get formed. But they switch around a fair amount.

As for which Links? ...Pretty much all of the game ones haha. I have 13, or 14 I think? I wanted to play with a big group, and add in some Links that aren’t always in this kind of au.

Here’s a list of them all and some stuff about them :)

Cloud is skyward sword Link, he’s generally pretty chill and nice, but is really really annoyed he got dragged on this quest. He was in the middle of his honeymoon for Hylia’s sake. Has some white streaks in his hair from Demise’s lightning, the others say it’s because he’s old and refuse to drop it even after hearing the correct explanation.

Mini is minish cap Link, he’s the youngest out of everyone here. Gives off big innocent vibes, but he’s as fierce as anyone else in the group. Really nice and sweet, it’s surprising to everyone how good of a fighter he is. Doesn’t care too much about being seen as a kid, so long as it doesn’t cause any problems...

Kaleidoscope (Kal) is four swords Link, he’s one of the quietest of the group. He suffers some weird effects from using the four sword on his adventure, where his brain gets confused and thinks it’s running around in multiple bodies again. It usually doesn’t cause any issues. Usually. Also really good at sewing, which comes in handy quite a lot.

Sprite is ocarina of time/majora’s mask Link, and he is not happy to be here. He’s in the 12-13 range and it’s rather obvious. He thought he was done with time travel ever since that dumb war (hw) he got sucked into, and he doesn’t want to be here. At all. Especially since it seems like (at first) the one Link he wants to see again isn’t even here.

Gloam is twilight princess Link, he was the first Link to be sucked into this. Affectionately refers to anyone younger than him as puppy (which is most of the group), and sometimes has trouble not being in constant big-brother mode. Has a strange sadness about him sometimes. Worries a fair amount. Can also turn into a wolf, and while doesn’t stress about keeping it secret, he also doesn’t come out and just tell everyone. This gets confusing.

Light is four sword adventures Link, he’s a slight mix of the game and manga. He’s got a quick tongue and is seen as one of the more annoying of the group, but he’s determined to stop this threat, and one of the few actually good at working on a team. Also suffers some strange effects from the four sword, though his are more emotion-based than Kal’s. Sometimes his shadow looks weird.

Windy is windwaker/phantom hourglass Link, and he’s kind of just rolling with all of this. He already got plunked into an alternate world one time, this is kinda like that. Makes fast friends with pretty much all the others, especially Light (they’re besties lol), and can usually keep his big-brothering to a manageable level. Really good at navigation.

Spirit (Dove) is spirit tracks Link, and he’s... kind of freaked out by all of this. Yeah he can fight pretty well, but trains are really more of his thing and it’s kind of overwhelming getting yanked around through time like this especially since that one guy is the Hero of Winds what— Can also see ghosts, which is... interesting.

Hibiscus (Hib) is a Link to the past/oracle of seasons/ages/Link’s Awakening Link, and is the most experienced person here. He’s the unofficial medic, has a pretty good guess as to how they’re all being pulled through time, is very sensitive to magical changes, keeps a level head, and... kind of never got over Koholint. Looking at him you’d never guess, though. He’s made some incremental progress in that regard, but it’s also pretty hard for him to be around Cloud, who talks about his Zelda a lot. He also gets time-travel sick. Lucky him.

Hue is a link between worlds/tri force heroes Link, and has an outfit for every occasion. Seriously. He’s learning how to be a blacksmith, but he wants to go into enchanted jewelry and other stuff like that someday. Magical items fascinate him, and though he sometimes focuses more on outward appearances then he should, he’s a nice guy. Even if the green hair streaks are a bit weird.

Brownie is the original legend of Zelda/the adventure of Link Link, and he’s just. Really stressed. He went from being hunted by one cult to another, and being in such a large noisy group puts him seriously on-edge. The most skilled with magic out of their group. He tends to keep to himself, but he gravitates towards the other more quiet Links, like Kaleidoscope.

Era is hyrule warriors Link, and due to all of his time shenanigans, he doesn’t join until a bit after everyone else. The oldest of the group, and visibly stressed by the fact that there’s only a handful of adults and he’s one of them. Was really close with Sprite in the war, it was terrible for both of them when it ended. Is also in a bit of a tricky political situation when he gets pulled away, one he really didn’t want to leave in the middle of.

First is the link from the manga in the back of the Hyrule historia (with some tweaks). He is a ghost. He doesn’t know how or why he’s here. Only Spirit and Gloam even know he’s here, they’re the only two who can see him (...that they know of, and Gloam can only do it as a wolf). He can’t physically interact with barely anything, and watching all of this go down is extremely stressful. He wishes he could help.

And Slate is breath of the wild Link, and he’s convinced that this is all his fault. He’s the entire reason the Yiga are screwing with time and dragging all these heroes here (...heroes who didn’t fail...) and he’s desperate to stop them. Aside from the guilt dragging him down, he’s one of the more upbeat Links. He’s the unofficial cook, is often humming something to himself, and is the best archer by a long shot.

Pre-relationship: 2. Were you flirty before getting together?

You guys have seen how I act with you and how I act with Q…take a moment and think about the question /lh <3

I was extremely flirty, like more so than usual. One of my favorite pick up lines to use because it usually at the very least makes the other person smile is “I just put on some skittles chapstick, kiss me if you want to taste the rainbow.” Context for how this came up: I forced him to go to the park with me because I wanted to try and go mushroom hunting, unfortunately my shoes were newer so I had to stop because I was getting terrible blisters :(

Osamu all but carried me to the gazebo so I could sit down (look who’s prepared, it’s me and my mini first aid kit in my bag). So after putting bandaids on my heels he sat down next to me and I just kind of leaned against him. I had a silly idea so I pull out my skittles chapstick (yes this is real, yes I have an entire collection of chapstick flavors) and I put some on and then turn to him and say the line. He burst out laughing and it was that one smile that makes me go 🥰🥰🥰 and then he shook his head and went “Bet you won’t.”

No we did not kiss that day </3 he did kiss my forehead when he dropped me off at my apartment though so a win is a win 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Pre-relationship: 7. Were you two obvious about being in love? Did your friends try to tell you?

One thing about me is…I can’t be subtle about anything. Like, genuinely it’s so obvious when I like someone. I would find every excuse in the book to try and hold his hand and I really should have known that he liked me because every time we held hands he would bring them up to his lips and kiss the back of my hand :(((

Moral of the story, yes. We were so obvious. We’re just hopeless romantics.

I know for a fact Atsumu tried to tell me. Anytime Osamu would get on his nerves he would smile and go “Bug, wanna hear somethin’ funny?” The GLARE THAT OSAMU GAVE HIM OMG.

And Ave (ily Ave <3) tried to tell me I was being stupid. Because for as much of a hopeless romantic as I am I don’t like telling people when I have crushes </3 it was especially bad since we had classes together that we were partners in 😭😭😭

Ooo. Okay, so he’s a sap. I think we’ve all established this <3333 but I think this would have to be from the night before he asked me out. He took me home and when he was dropping me off made a joke and then he stopped and smiled at me. I was really confused so I asked him like ???

AND HE GOES. “You have a really pretty smile. I like your little fangs.” And I’m like really insecure about my smile and my teeth so I don’t usually smile where you can see my teeth </3 but that just made it so clear to me that YUP. I WANT HIM.

In Love: 20. Favorite romantic thing you’ve said to them?

So- I was maybe a bit sleep deprived when this event took place. Maybe just a bit (def not running off of pure spite because I stayed up all night studying and doing hw…I would never do that). I hadn’t seen him all day so I wanted to see him :( so I forced him to come over and we went up to the roof and watched the stars. I think this was about a month or so into dating.

I brought all the blankets and I forced him to carry the pillows and snacks. I’m not sure how long we stayed looking at the stars but I remembered a quote I really liked and while he was trying to look at the stars I grabbed his hand and went “Apparently we’re made of stardust.” And he kind of paused but let me continue. “They say soulmates are made from the same stardust, and I would like to think we were. That we’re made from the same star.” And then I proceeded to fall asleep </3

Omg. It’s gonna have to be when I have a day off or it’s lunch and I go to visit him at Onigiri Miya. Esp during lunch rush. I can see him from the counter working in the kitchen and he always has a small smile on his face no matter how swamped it gets. And seeing him be so happy doing something he loves just makes me love him more you know? Like, that’s my partner. And they’re happy so I’m happy <3 :)

Domestic: 14. Bedtime routine

So by the time we get home we’re tired. It’s been a long day of cooking and standing and it’s exhausting. So we have a mandatory 1 hr nap when we get home. Where we don’t say anything and we just lay down and hold each other.

Osamu will usually be the one to cook and doesn’t want me to do anything (🙄) but sometimes if he’s really tired I’ll cook by myself or help him. He usually just tells me to make dessert because he knows that it calms me down <333 :(((

I make him do skin care with me bcs I refuse to be the only one who does it. Once he got used to it he started doing it for me when I’m too tired to get up from bed. I’ll make myself a cup of tea an hour before bed and we’ll sit in silence on the couch as I read and he talks either his friends. Once that hour is up though we’ll go to bed. :)

Wedding: 2. Who stutters through their vows and who calms them down?

I know I’ve said this somewhere and I think it was for Molly’s self-ship stuff lol. But it is me. I AM THE STUTTERER.

I hate public speaking and it just makes everything so much worse when it’s all of my friends and family and it’s a really important moment. And I was really anxious. :( but he just rubbed his thumb on the back of my hand and squeezed it three times and I was much better.

Chapter 14: The Manga Con

Anya and Yor went out to walk Bond while Loid cooked dinner. They already have some friends at the dogs’ park and while Anya played with Bond and other dogs, Yor was chatting with the owners.

“Mrs. Forger. I heard Anya loves Bondman so maybe this will be something she would like to go to” said a nice man to Yor, offering a brochure.

“Manga Con?” She read the paper “a convention full of activities, meet and greet with the writers of your favorite manga and even the actors of the most famous TV shows. From Thursday to Sunday” Yor finished reading and looked at her daughter and smiled “thank you very much. I will talk to my husband” 

Then they left and Yor made the wise decision of not telling her, if Anya were a normal child, but sadly she read her mind and knew about the convention and that there might be the voice actor of Bondman and the writer but, as always, she will need to act normal, as normal as she can, to not reveal her power.

Anya bit her tongue all the way to their house and thankfully the food was ready. Loid sent them to wash their hands then started to eat.

Yor was waiting to speak with him without Anya so the pink haired girl had to keep the secret. Bond could tell she was hiding something but maybe he will know later 

The dinner went by as normal as ever and while she brushed her teeth and changed Yor washed the dishes. Then Loid went to read her a story and he joined Yor in the living room.

There Yor made her move. She got out of her purse the brochure.

“Loid, look at this” she handed it to him. “one of the dogs' owners gave it to me when Anya and I walked Bond today” he started to read and with his quick reading ability hw finished in seconds but faked to read a bit longer.

“Manga Con?” He asked, confused “what's that?”

“It's a convention where fans of the manga and anime go to interact, buy stuffs from their favorite manga and there will be events like dressing up as their favorite character and win something” he nodded showing her that he understood, Yor continued “Anya had been a good girl all this month, doing her homework and getting better with her handwriting so maybe we can take her there” she said  looking at his face for any sign of disapproval but he just smiles.

“That's an excellent idea, Yor. I noticed that she is putting an extra effort in her homework and with Grandpa Siggy’s help she's getting better so I like your idea and we can let it clear that we are doing it because of her effort so you understand that, if she works hard then she will have a reward” 

“Exactly! That's what I thought. Like what I did with Yuri. He was doing all his homework and passing his exams so I brought him a new encyclopedia or something he liked” she smiled big remembering her brother's face when she did.

“Amazing, tomorrow we will tell her” he promised and they remained in the living room a bit longer just reading. Yor was happy because of her idea and Loid was proud that she was acting like an actual mom, which was excellent for his mission. That way everyone will never doubt her as a mother.

They went to sleep at eleven and the next morning while having breakfast, they told Anya who had to fake that she didn't know about it but her excitement was real.

At school she told Becky who doesn't seem excited but still was happy about her best friend having fun. Damian was a bit jealous because he knew that his father or mother would never take him to those events. They could say ‘it is too dangerous’ or ‘you should be more mature’. 

He didn't say anything but Anya could read his mind and felt bad for him, she looked at him in a way like saying ‘I’m sorry you have such strict parents’ which made him blush and stopped looking at him.

He still has in his mind what she told him about reading minds. Was she really doing it?... No, she must be faking it.

The days passed and Anya continued her good job so her dad didn't change his mind and Saturday morning arrived.

They had breakfast and left for the convention. The place was full of people wearing costumes or something from their favorite character.

Anya got excited and asked her mom for photos next to Bondman cosplayers, there other shows she liked but Bondman was her main show.

They stopped by a stand and bought a shirt and a pair of Bondman socks. She also got a color book and the manga she couldn't find which were the hotel saga, one that they haven't shown on the anime yet but maybe will be next season, there was also his past before turning into a spy so Anya bought both volumes.

There was a band playing anime covers and she was ready excited when they played her Bondman’s favorite opening.

Yor was happy for Anya and enjoyed it with her, Loid smiled as he watched her so happy. Operation Strix was important but these moments were worth having because those two were his team in order to complete the mission and keeping them happy was a must on his list.

The day finished with a cosplay contest and some words from the voice actor of Bondman which meant the world for Anya who nearly passed out.

They returned back home holding two bags of merchandise and a little girl sleeping in Loid’s arms.

I'm thinking about calling it Hetalia Jukebox Week or something. That's my working title for now until/unless I think of something better.

I came up with the idea last night when I realized just how much music makes me Think. I have a WIP NA Bros fic about an event from my personal life I remembered after listening to Mitski's "Brand New City." In a way my Migraines in Margaritaville AU is inspired by "Margaritaville" (though it's more like a pipeline. Margaritaville song -> Margaritaville restaurants -> Ted & Eddy Margaritaville videos -> my NA Bros Margaritaville fic). Hell, just last night I was thinking about how a lyric from a Fall Out Boy song makes me want to write about a messy divorce/infidelity using the line "Does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?"

I'm thinking of hosting it in January. I don't want to overlap with anyone else's event so right now I'm thinking of hosting it January 21st-27th or February 18-24th (the latter date isn't ideal though because there are events during the two prior weeks and I don't want anyone to become stressed with all of the events they want to partake in).

Giving us until the end of January also gives time for us to vote on the prompts.

The timeline I'm thinking about is the following:

• I pull together all of the details by the end of this week (10/14) • I set up the event account @hws-jukebox-week with all of the information, rules, and we start doing polls • Poll #1: Lyric submissions (~10/28-11/10) • Poll #2: Prompt voting (~11/12-11/26) • Prompt list is posted ideally on December 1st • Event starts January 21, ends January 28 • I will be reblogging work as I see it during the week and up to two weeks after the end!

I'm thinking that with the prompts, there's 3 options per day. There'll be a general theme connecting them so if people want to use more than one prompt to inspire their work, they can! There's also hyperlinks to the song for each lyric. Here's two examples I've just slapped together:

Day 1 | January 21 (Attraction)

Might also be a good idea for what theme you consider the song to be. Maybe when it comes to lyrics submissions, I'll have some themes that you need to provide songs for? Not sure about that yet.

People can use the lyrics as lines in their work, as the title, or just an outline for what happens! It'd also be really cool to see how people transform music into a visual work

Extinguishing the Last Light (FFXIV) is the bad ending AU where the Scions don't succeed in defeating the newly formed Lightwarden after the events of Mt. Gulg, and Estinien gets called to the First. it continues to haunt me and I ended up gposing a scene from it.

7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably This Is Home.

8) Do you get hate on fics?

Not yet, but I have gotten a couple of the "moar plz/when are you gonna updaaaaate?" type comments. See above commenting privileges policy.

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have exactly one E fic (An Owl In Limsa) that has been published, but the HW fic will also be explicit pretty much right out the gate. I have far, far more smut pieces that are just for me and some friends.

So far, it's just been a single hookup. That's been published. There's. A variance. In my word docs. Some may see the light of day, some may not, only time will tell.

10) Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one you've written?

Eh, not really my thing. It veers a little to close to crack for my tastes.

11) Have you ever had fic stolen?

Not as far as I know. It may sound self deprecating, but I don't think any of my work is good enough to be worth stealing, and certainly none of it is big enough in the fandom to catch the eye of scammers who sell fic on Amazon or whatever.

Again, not to my knowledge, though if someone were interested I would be happy to discuss!

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have, at least once, yes! I was part of a small group doing a Critical Role AU where Mollymauk was a lost de Rolo child, and we were all taking turns puppeting the M9 and VM with their official character sheets. I kinda miss it sometimes but we all just kinda drifted. Very very fun though, would highly recommend it.

14) What's your all time favourite ship?

I don't really do the whole "this is my Only Ship Ever" thing. I'll have a preferred ship per fandom, but especially since getting into XIV I have fully embraced the motto of "learn to multiship like an adult".

15) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My canon divergent Borderlands 2 AU. Every now and again I'll think about it, and I do have the original outline I wrote for it (past me really did me a solid there) but the fandom drift has hit so hard I really just lost all momentum on it. I don't want to orphan or abandon it because What If Some Day I get back to it, but that day is looking pretty far off.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

So I haven't had this problem yet, but it will definitely be happening a lot once I start writing Stormblood stuff, because Kitali speaks fluent Doman as well as Dazkar Xaela, and will be switching between those and Eorzean common quite a bit.

Personally I'm not a fan of having a different formatting for each language (plain for the main language, bold for one, italics for another, underlined for another, etc) and would rather just have a dialogue tag stating what language is being spoken, with a new one each time the language switches.

I also am not a fan of having footnote translations in the author's notes, and would rather just have the actual translation instead of having to either scroll back and forth (annoying and I lose my place) or remembering what was said when and with what context (I have memory problems).

Of the ones I've published, I think I have to go with Extinguishing the Last Light. It's the one I think about the most often, it's the most evocative (imo) emotionally, and it tells the story it needs to tell in several concurrent layers.

Idc this was a pretty happy ending. As happy as it could get, considering we spent the middle 14 episodes mourning the loss of a life that Hyun-woo could've had had he not been born dirt poor. It was really fitting for them to set up the exact same time for Do-jun and Hyun-woo to fight for the throne and respect, respectively. 17, almost 18 years. Maybe it's bc I haven't read the web novel but whether the story be a simple loopy one or magic realist; it doesn't really negate the previous 14 episodes. I remember I'd told my friend that I felt this was the case of an unreliable narrator, somewhere around episode 4 lol. Why did HW read up everything he could get on Jin Yang-cheol? He was too busy running around working triple shifts, worrying about his family in rampant poverty during his teens and early twenties to know the intricacies of stock market, economy, Seo Taiji's comeback, everything related to everyone and their mother!? Mason's books are sitting somewhere in his backroom probably all dog-eared right now as we speak. He followed the numbers, facts, remembered each fight along with the contemporaneous event in history. That's why he kept winning. I'm attributing the non-romance situation with Min-young to him not knowing the goings-on in their private lives.

Min-young flashbacking to her and Do-jun's initial days kind of confirmed to me that it was both Hyun-woo's outstanding guilt as well as comatose- time travel to blame for this series. "Repentance" once an unreliable narrator, always an unreliable narrator.

lol where was I going, this show was beautifully acted, enjoyable and masterfully played onscreen. That's the thing about transformative stories, they have something for everyone. The only bittersweet thing about the finale is that it's ended :(

Hetalia modern AU idea

Warnings : mentions of death and parental lose (don't read if you are too sensitive. Also this has absolutely nothing to do with any current events like the war in Ukraine. If you are easily offended just leave)

In the AU this particular post is about , Claudius Gothicus and Quintillus lose their parents in a terrible car accident during a family vacation. The two brothers manage to survive with only some very little injuries, but their parents aren't so lucky.

They stay in the hospital during the whole night until one of the doctors comes and tells them the bad news.

Doctor : We are really sorry. We tried everything to save your parents but we couldn't save any of them.

After that the two brothers return home and a friend of their parents helps them to organise the funeral.

When the funeral ends , all the people that were invited left , but the two brothers stayed for a bit near their parents' grave.

That moment a small dialogue starts between them.

HWS Quintillus: and now what we are going to do , big brother? Mom and dad are both gone. *cries*

HWS Claudius Gothicus : don't be afraid, I am here for you. I will do my best to take care of you. *hugs him and comforts him*.

By the time they have already returned home , a social worker comes to visit them with some documents in her hands.

Social worker : Good evening. I came here to tell you , something very important.

HWS Quintillus : will I end up in an orphanage , big brother? I don't want it.

Social worker : from what we know your parents passed away because of a car accident. And you are the only one who can take care of this child. Are you sure that you can do it?

HWS Claudius Gothicus : I accept to do it. I actually took care of my brother since he was a newborn and I can't leave him alone now.

After this , the social worker passes him the document which he reads very carefully and when he's done he signs it.

From that day on ,besides the role of the big brother that he already has, Gothicus becomes both a father and a mother figure for his brother Quintillus. Despite of his grief, he doesn't have the time to mourn properly . He has to stay strong for both for his brother and himself. They decided to move into the city where the older brother studies psychology at its university and the younger brother will go to a new school.

And since the money of their parents won't last forever, Gothicus finds a job at a nearby café where he works for few hours per week as a waiter , so he can afford for both him and Quintillus , of whom he is the legal guardian.

In this AU , Gothicus is 21 years old and Quintillus is 14 years old. They aren't actually Roman Emperors, they are just just named after them

3. Who do they worry about the most?

hmmm. probably alphinaud and alisaie! she really comes to care for them as if they were her own family perhaps even more than her actual family, and after everything that happens in hw and sb, all the shared sorrow and joy and hope found in each other's company -- yeah, definitely the twins!

5. What is the first impression most people have of them? Is it different when they get to know them?

ahhh. so, leida definitely gives off carefree and friendly vibes when you first meet her. she treats you like you've been friends for years, all wide smiles and friendly banter. once you start digging, especially post-hw on, you start to see that there's a...well a real loneliness there, born from loss and from bearing the weight of so much power and hope on her shoulders. essentially, you start to see her mask slip more and more the closer you get to her. which isn't to say that she isn't still genuine in her joy and friendship! she is, at her heart, a jovial and caring person! she loves the life and the family that she has carved out for herself. but she's also so, so tired and often feels guilty for it.

14. If they were not an adventurer, what would they be doing?

this question is a two-fold, so i'll answer for both scenarios. in the event that leida never left home, she would have taken over running her mother's shop (and also the bookkeeping for her sister's blacksmithing practice) and never left her hometown. she would have put the books on summoning away, back under the loose floorboards she hid them under, along with all her dreams of forging her own path, and never picked them up again. still, she would look out onto the endless stretch of ocean every night and wonder, what if... if we're talking about like...retirement? she would return to ishgard. take a nap. catch up on all the trashy romance novels she's fallen behind on reading. finally make good use out of that apartment. maybe join the temple knights as a training officer or something. but she would definitely be in ishgard.

finally starting that big post of "wol think thonkers." first five under the cut.

Where is your Warrior of Light from? What was their home like growing up and what set them out on their journey?

Wolund grew up about a day's ride west of Rabanastre; he lived as the ward of his aunt, the operator of a caravanserai, a walled roadside inn for merchants and travelers. His childhood was largely peaceful and safe, with his days spent helping to run the caravanserai. His aunt also taught him the martial arts of the Verdant Path; a master herself, she had covertly opposed the Garlean occupation of Bozja alongside the resistance, but fled for Dalmasca when a severe injury to her leg left her with a permanent limp.

Wolund was just 14 when the Garleans swept through Dalmasca. With his aunt increasingly relying on him, he had no interest in becoming a part of any resistance to the Empire, and tried to keep his head down. In his early 20s, he fathered a child with a Keeper of the Moon Mi'qote merchant who regularly passed through the caravanserai. He was 23 when a local magistrate came through, looking to fill a quota.

Wolund underwent a twenty-year conscription as a legion auxiliary; while he saw relatively little action for the majority of his time, events conspired to place him in the VIIth Legion just before Carteneau. He survived, and served out the rest of his time, and returned to the caravanserai outside Rabanastre as Wolund pyr Anadezhda. He found both his aunt and her new apprentice: his now 20-year-old daughter. He spent only a short time there before a local Imperial magistrate sought to employ him as part of his household guard. Unable to tolerate yet more years of serving at the behest of Garlean officials, he fled overseas, first to Kugane, and thence to Eorzea.

What city-state did your WoL start in? How did they feel about it then, and how do they feel about it now? (ie, did their experiences sour their perception, or make them appreciate it more?)

Wolund started in Limsa Lominsa, which in many respects reminded him quite a bit of Rabanastre, if rather rougher around the edges. Still, the city's mercantile and individualistic culture agreed with him. He first found employment as a customs official at Mealvaan's Gate, and working for the city-state facilitated his further identification with Limsan culture.

Though he still regards Rabanastre as his home, he quite readily enlisted with the Maelstrom when they approached him in ARR, and has worked quite closely with them over the years, rising to the rank of Captain. How do they feel about being Hydaelyn's chosen? (Feel free to break it down from ARR's "Champion of Eorzea" all the way to "The Savior of Etheirys" as much as you like. Have those feelings changed, or just grown more complex?)

Wolund no longer minds the role itself; he sees himself as uniquely positioned, empowered, and obliged to use his talents to protect the world, and rises to meet the occasion. When he sent the rest of the team back to the Ragnarok in Ultima Thule, that wasn't a desperation move but a supreme act of confidence. This isn't necessarily healthy—it's actually sort of weird to go around believing that not only are you capable of overcoming any odds, but that it's your moral obligation to do so for others at any price. But he feels great about it!

It hasn't always been that way. Wolund felt deeply ashamed of his inability to fill the role of Champion of Eorzea properly in ARR and HW. From the attack on the Waking Sands and the death of Noraxia, to Hydaelyn needing to come to his aid against Lahabrea, to failing to guard Alphinaud against his own errors, to the disaster of the Banquet (with everyone apparently sacrificing their lives for him specifically), to Haurchefant's death, in his eyes he basically goes from unmitigated failure to unmitigated failure. He compensates by basically pointing himself in whatever direction Alphinaud tells him is the right direction and killing whatever stands in their way.

He was quite shaken by the battle with the Warriors of Darkness. On the one hand, their relentless assult and indomitable will (which could have ultimately proved successful, were it not for Urianger's intercession) reflected the terrible truth that they carried their world's hopes on their shoulders. On the other hand, watching Minfilia and Urianger move decisively to alter the fates of entire worlds convinced him that he no longer had the luxury of pretending to be the Scions' pet eikon slayer. Starting with the Eorzean Alliance meetings that lead into Stormblood, he started taking his role as Warrior of Light much more seriously. And that's the language he thinks of his role in, not merely Hydaelyn's brave little spark or the defender of Eorzea, but a militant champion for all things good and right and just in the world. He found that where he previously believed the world too complex for him to act, he now believes himself not just capable but obligated to singlehandedly and forcefully defend the good in the world. And he's afraid to let anyone else help because he can't lose them too. At night, Myste's words repeat in his head.

It's not good stuff. There's a post-Endwalker fic bubbling where he really struggles with self-sacrificial impulses. Going into Dawntrail, he's trying to figure out who he is if he's not literally constantly fighting for good. We'll see what it brings!

What do they do in their down time? Do they have any hobbies outside of Primal-slaying and world-saving? Are these lifelong hobbies or recent interests?

Wolund's whole stupid thing is being omnijob and doing every quest, and if you do that, it clearly is your hobby. I think the skill he actually takes seriously though, and prides as his own, is his skill as a Culinarian. He also takes fishing quite seriously, because he thinks as the only Fisherman going to places like Ultima Thule or the moon, he has an obligation to catalogue everything he can (and…see what's edible).

How do they feel now that "it's all over" (the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark)? What do they plan to do next? Or is their story finished - and if you're retiring them, what does retirement look like for them? Do you have someone else taking the stage going forward?

Wolund has no idea what's next for him. He won't be retiring; maybe (out of game) if they'd swapped out Meteor, but as long as he's going, Wolund is going. I think the Island Sanctuary was sort of a quiet group effort by his allies to give him something to occupy his time and force him to sort of reflect on what he wants next. I don't think he's arrived at an answer.

He's working to catalogue the traditional forms of the Verdant Path for historical preservation, but he's gradually coming to terms with the idea that he doesn't have to do anything in particular next. He is extremely personally wealthy as a result of his long years adventuring and now the Island Sanctuary, and he likes adventuring and combat and helping people. He's probably going to use his funds and personal connections to keep going in that line of work until he falls dead…and that's assuming he doesn't Echo right into another body.

I don't know if he'll reconnect with his daughter and her mother. They're outside the scope of the game, and therefore the stories I tell with him.

Steps for being a parent to enforce on kids EQUALLY: 

I’ll add more later but so far:

I’ll praise them for good behavior or grades etc but scold or punish or whatever for inappropriate behavior or grades (unless it’s a C or something then I’ll just help but C’s are NOT the end of the world. Also if they’re autistic or have any other mental disability then the behavior is a different story)

If my children ever have trauma no one’s trauma will be invalidated compared to others if they’re both or all traumatized which I’ll try to prevent but shit happens like CSA and stuff 

I’ll never doubt them when they come out and be with them on their gender/sexuality discovery journey 

Taking devices and stuff away no matter the age as long as 10+ (cos that’s when they get devices that aren’t tv)

Taking devices away (tablets or tv) and no sleepovers/school clubs/events or going to friends houses for some amount of time depending on their crime for 11-12 

For 13-15 id take away devices like phones computers tablets tv allat and also ground them from going out or calling anyone and stuff obvi and no school events or clubs or anything including sports and stuff like drama club plays etc it’s their fault the teams suffering without them (or maybe doing better? I don’t know)

For 16-17 the above and for 17 id lecture them but stronger than i obviously would with younger kids and also not let them see their gf/bf/lover
